THE PATRICKSBURG COMMUNITY CENTER on Thursday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

MCCORMICK’S CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL encourages parents of new and returning students to register for the 2010-2011 school year on Thursday, August 12. Registration will be held from 2:30- 6:30 p.m. at the school. Students do not need to attend.

THE OWEN COUNTY DRUGFREE YOU AND ME COUNCIL (LCC) will meet Thursday, August 12 beginning at 4:15 p.m. in the Spencer Municipal Building. Discussions regarding Red Ribbon Week and the Apple Butter Festival projects will be on the agenda.

Spencer Masonic Lodge #95 wil have its stated meting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 12. The Lodge will open on the Entered Apprentice degree. All EA’s, FC’s and MM’s are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

MCCORMICK’S CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL staff will greet new kindergarten students and their parents at an open house on Thursday, August 12 from 6:30- 7:30 p.m. There will be a meeting for kindergarten parents and students at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Parents will receive information about the upcoming school year and have an opportunity to complete all registration forms. Come meet the teachers and see the classrooms.

Tea-N-Me… Fridays at the Owen County Art Guild. Come and enjoy yourself. Relax and let the world remain outside the door. Bring a project or just sit and chat with other artists from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

August 13

The Endwright Center wil host an Activities Day, Friday, August 13 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Activities will include yoga, line dancing, Tai Chi and aerobics.

August 14

THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY IN OWEN COUNTY will hold their monthly book sale on Saturday, August 14, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.. The sale will be held in the Life-Long Learning Center, located adjacent to the Owen County Public Library in Spencer.

THE LIGHTHOUSE TABERNACLE in Gosport will host a “Back to School Supply” giveaway on Saturday, August 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Children in grades kindergarten to sixth grade are eligible, though must be present to receive the supplies.

THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD in Spencer will host a photography presentation by guild member James E. Johnson on Saturday, August 14 from 1-3 p.m. Johnson will present information on types of cameras, exposure control, lens usage, copyrights and more. Everyone is welcome.

Cloverdale Masonic Lodge #132 social craft club wil hold their annual hog roast Saturday, August 14 from 4-7 p.m. in the lodge dining room, two miles west of Cloverdale on Robert Weist Road. The public is welcome to attend.

Winders Reunion will be Saturday, August 14 at ponderosa behind YMCA in Spencer at 3 p.m. Please bring a chair. Call Scott Winders at 829-4492 for more information.

The Patricksburg Community Center wil host karaoke from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, August 14. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served hot off the grill outside, weather permitting.

August 15

Revival … Lovell Logson will be preaching a revival at Praise & Worship Church Sunday, August 15 through Wednesday, August 18 beginning at 7 p.m. each evening. The church is located in Carp off of 231 at 7241 Locust Lake Road. Transportation can be arranged. Call 829-6046 for more information.

White River Valey PFLAG will gather Sunday, August 15 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Spencer Presbyterian Church’s Cornerstone Hall, 154 North Main Street, in Spencer. The group will be discussing the Straight for Equality in Healthcare campaign and the Out in Silence film screening, as well as collecting items to donate to for a food drive at the church. Bring your favorite snack to share.

August 16

THE OWEN COUNTY HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY monthly educational program will be held Monday, August 16 in Coal City at the Jefferson Baptist Church, located at the north end of town on Main Street (State Road 157). The free public program will begin at 6:30 p.m. and feature a panel of local historians who will discuss Coal City’s fascinating history, its people, and its once thriving businesses and industries. After the program, the historic Coal City train depot will be open for those wishing to see the interior of the only depot still standing in Owen County and view local history displays. Cloverdale Masonic Lodge #132 will be working the FC Degree Monday evening, August 16 at 7 p.m. All fellow craft and master masons are welcome to attend. Refreshments to follow.

August 17

INDIANA SOCIETY SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION will hold a quarterly meeting Tuesday, August 17 at the Creative Corners Buffet, located on the courthouse square in Bedford. Buffet begins at 6:00 p.m., with the meeting to follow at 7:00 p.m. Cost is $10.00 per person. The program will be give by Colonel T. OC Extension Homemaker’s Sewing Day will be Wednesday, August 18 from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Please bring a friend and join in helping others. Come cut, sew stuff, or donate fabric for construction of items. The group could use stretch fabric for scarf turbans for women cancer patients, gently used sheets for hospital gowns for VistaCare Hospice and juvenile print fabric for puppy pillows for Riley Childrens Hospital.

August 21

THE COAL CITY COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT will host its annual Jonah fish fry on Saturday, August 21 beginning at 11:00 a.m. The menu will include fish, green beans, baked beans, applesauce, cole slaw, dessert and drink. Cost: $8 for adults. A kids menu featuring hot dogs will also available.

August 22

THE 70th MEGENHARDT FAMILY REUNION will be held Sunday, August 22 at Forest Park in Brazil. Carry-in lunch will be served at 1:00 p.m. Beverages will be furnished.

THE GOSPORT CRIME WATCH will meet Sunday, August 22 beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Gosport Town Hall. The meeting is open to all residents and light refreshments will be available. For more information, contact county prosecutor Don VanDerMoere at 812-829-5005, or e-mail: prosecutor@owencounty. in.gov.

Quincy Baptist Church Song Fest will be Sunday, August 29 beginning at 3 p.m. and will be held outside, weather permitting. Bring your lawn chairs and a canned good for the food pantry. For more information, call 765-795- 3016.

September 5

The Walter Scott Everly family wil host its 75th anual family reunion at 12 noon on Sunday, September 5 at Camp Friendly in McCormick’s Creek State Park. A potluck dinner will take place at 12:30 p.m. Family members should bring a main dish and dessert or salad to share, as well as their own table service. Drinks will be provided.
