OVMS Food Drive A Success

Dear Editor,

On November 23, the Owen Valley Middle School Student Government wrapped up its annual food drive just in time for Thanksgiving. Over the course of six school days, middle school students brought in food to be donated to the Spencer Presbyterian Food Pantry. In a time of economic uncertainty, this year’s food drive was a success, bringing in close to 700 non-perishable food items.

In addition to student donations, the OVMS Athletic Department helped raise items for the food drive through the OVMS boys’ basketball game against Monrovia on Monday night. Athletic Director Kyle Shipp and athletic supervisor Julie Hickam offered reduced admission to anyone bringing in canned food items. The student government would like to thank all students, parents and teachers who donated. Also, a special thank you goes to Monrovia’s middle school cheerleaders for donating two bags of items for the food drive.
