Howard L. Morgan, 81

Howard L. Morgan Howard L. Morgan Howard L. “Speed” Morgan, 81, of Spencer, passed away at his residence on January 7, 2011. He was born September 20, 1929 in Salem, Indiana to Benjamin and Josephine (Bush) Morgan.

Howard was a graduate of Gosport High School. He worked at Gosport Tent and Awing, Canyon Inn and most recently worked for many years and retired from the Spencer-Owen Community Schools where he was a custodian at the high school. Howard was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a faithful member of the Owen County Military Honor Guard, serving with them at over 200 graveside services. He was able to go on the Hoosier Honor Flight in April 2010. Howard attended the Bible Baptist Church, was a lifetime member of the Gosport VFW and a member of the Spencer American Legion. Howard was a huge IU fan.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his fiancé, Betty Featherston; children, Debbie (Tim) Farrell of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brenda Morgan of Greene County, Brad Morgan (Connie Waldon) of Bloomington, David (Bonnie) Morgan of Bloomington; stepson, Terry (Cassy) Murphy of Spencer; a brother, Robert E. Morgan, Sr. of Martinsville; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles I. Morgan and John O. Brewer; and sisters, Maxine Morgan and baby girl, Morgan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer with Pastors Nick Robertson and Billy Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Gosport Cemetery where the Spencer American Legion and VFW will perform military graveside services. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
