Today’s Meditation

From The Upper Room The World’s Most Widely Read Daily Devotional Guide

Read Ephesians 4:25-32

Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way lies; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.

-Jeremiah 6:16 (NRSV)

Years ago, when i crossed a particular busy and dangerous intersection, i often waited a long time to cross and then ran across quickly -- a dangerous maneuver. Now i can cross this intersection safely, thanks to a new traffic light.

I associate this traffic light with the christian life and think of people who act as "traffic lights" in our life. It is a blessing to count on friends and loved ones who listen, help, counsel, and alert us to possible dangers.

In our daily lives, we need help to evaluate our decisions and the possible consequences of our actions. Christian friends can guide us as we seek to do god's will. They can let us know when to stop, wait, or go in a new direction, how to make changes that will help us be better servants; and when to move ahead.

Prayer: Dear god of hope, we give you thanks for all those who light our path and illumine our lives, as we pray, "our father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."*

Thought For The Day: The journey of life is easier because of god's light shining through friends and family.
