Floyd H. Kay, 83

Floyd H. Kay Floyd H. Kay Floyd “Bus” H. Kay, 83, of Freedom, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. He was born in Jordan Village, Owen County, on November 19, 1928 to Horace and Ruth Elizabeth (Meek) Kay. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. Floyd worked at Navistar for 27 years, retiring in 1990, and he farmed for his father for years.

Bus was a member of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years, helping to start station three in 1971. He was inducted into the Owen County Firefighter’s Hall of Fame. Mr. Kay was affiliated with the Freedom Methodist Church.

Bus is survived by his wife, Bernadene (Turpin) Kay; three daughters, Tamara Kay (companion, Chris Crabtree) of Bloomington, Deanna (Jack) White of Spencer and Dorinda Brock of Freedom; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jeraldine Fisher of Indianapolis and Betty Wallace of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home. Rev. Terry Marker will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery where the Spencer American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. There will also be a memorial service conducted by the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department, or IU Bloomington Hospital Hospice in care of the funeral home.
