August 23

THE SPENCER MASONIC LODGE will confer the fellow craft degree upon two worthy candidates on Thursday, August 23 at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments to follow. All fellow crafts are welcome to attend.

August 24

THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD WRITER’S GROUP WILL meet Friday, August 24 at 2 p.m. at the art guild.

THE COAL CITY HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES OF 1953, 1954 AND 1955 will hold a reunion Friday, August 24 at Chambers Restaurant. The reunion will be from 4-8 p.m. with the meal at 5 p.m.

VFW POST #1405 IN SPENCER WILL HOST A FISH FRY every Friday night through the end of September, from 6:30-8:30. Cost is $6 per plate. Proceeds benefit the VFW Men’s Auxiliary.

August 25

THE CLOVERDALE TOWNSHIP VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT will host its 14th Annual Golf Scramble on Saturday, August 25 at Clover Meadows. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. For more information, contact Steve at 765-301-0609.

VFW POST #1405, LADIES AND MEN’S AUXILIARIES IN SPENCER WIL HOST A WELCOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS EVENT on Saturday, August 25, beginning at 7:00 a.m. with a breakfast. The cost is $5 for non Vietnam veterans. A lunch and dinner will also be held at 12 noon and 6 p.m.

CHAOS AT THE GUILD = Creative Hours of Art On Saturday… Every Saturday, adults and children are welcome to attend free open art classes at the Guild from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at 199 West Cooper Street in Spencer. The next session will be held Saturday, August 25.

CASEY’S GENERAL STORE, located on State Road 46W on Spencer’s west side, will host a fundraiser to benefit Muscular Dystrophy on Saturday, August 25, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature a hog roast, dunk tank, raffles, small gifts for children of all ages, and live music by Larry Morley and Friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. Donations will be accepted.

THE WHITAKER BAPTIST CHURCH will welcome the Calvary Mennonite Church Singers from Paris, Tennessee on Saturday, August 25, beginning at 4:00 p.m. A pitch-in hog roast follows at 5:00.

THE CATARACT BAPTIST CHURCH will hold its 19th annual Songfest on Saturday, August 25, beginning at 7 p.m. Several area singers and musicians will be sharing their talents. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy an evening of praise in word and song.

August 26

THE 72ND MEGENHARDT FAMILY REUNION will be held Sunday, August 26, in the pavilion at Forest Park in Brazil, Indiana. The pitch-in lunch will begin at 1:00 p.m. Please bring your own table service and lawn chairs. Beverages will be furnished. For more information, call Penny at 812-876- 7513.

THE DESCENDENTS OF WILLIAM A. AND DELLA (CALVERT) CRITES will meet in the Hinch Building in Worthington Park on Sunday, August 26, beginning at 1:00 p.m. for a pitch-in meal.

THE WHITAKER BAPTIST CHURCH will host a showing of the DVD “What God did with a mess like me” beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 26. Everyone is invited to view this testimony.

AMERICAN LEGION POST #285 is open every Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. for members only.

August 27

CREATING ART TOGETHER… Parents of children birth to age five are invited to ‘Creating Art Together,’ from 10 a.m. until 12 noon on Monday, August 27 at the Owen County Art Guild. This interactive play group leads children into the world of creativity with age appropriate activities.

August 28

OPEN MIC NIGHT AT THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD begins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28. Singers, musicians, writers, poets, readers and jugglers are encouraged to attend and entertain the crowd. Content must be familyfriendly.

THE SPENCER AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY will meet Tuesday, August 28 at 7 p.m. at the Post.
