Spell Bowl Places Fourth In State Finals
by Megan Eldridge

On Saturday, November 10, ten Spell Bowl team members from Owen Valley High School, along with their coach, Arnold Hartman, boarded a bus and headed to the Indiana Academic Spell Bowl State Finals. Previously, the Owen Valley Spell Bowl team attended two competitions, one of them being an invitational, to qualify for the state finals. Owen Valley’s Spell Bowl team successfully attained fourth place out of six other qualifying schools.

Wyatt Atterbury, a senior member of Owen Valley’s Spell Bowl team, said, “the team studied together three days a week for the past few weeks” in order to spell words without difficulty. Evvie Coffin, Eleanor Coffin and Makayla McQueen all managed to breeze through the competition, spelling every word they were given correctly.
