Successful Education Is Vital

Dear Editor,

As a parent of a child with dyslexia, I am writing in support of Indiana House Bill 1003.

Students with dyslexia are intelligent and creative. However, they learn and process information differently than those who excel with traditional approaches to education.

After I enrolled my child in Pinnacle School – a nonprofit, independent school in Bloomington specializing in teaching children with dyslexia and similar learning differences – my child’s educational achievement improved significantly.

Unfortunately, loans and a second job were not enough to cover multiple years of tuition in addition to taxes supporting public education. I was forced to remove my child from the school that built her up. In 2012, with the help of the school choice program, my child was able to return to the school that meets her needs and in which she thrives!

A successful education is vital to a child’s future. I am asking our legislators to expand the state’s school choice program by voting ‘yes’ to HB 1003.
