Dozens Of Owen County 4-Hers Take Part In Recent Poultry Workshop & Testing Day

In anticipation of the upcoming 2013 fair, the Owen County 4-H program recently held a poultry workshop and testing event in the sheep & goat barn and main arena of the Owen County Fairgrounds.

Fair board vice president and poultry enthusiast Bill Pursell is shown above discussing classes of poultry, filling out enrollment forms and what to expect on show day to both 4-Hers and parents alike. gabrielle Teter, inset right, is show holding a feathered friend as Katie Selig takes a blood sample for testing. According to the Owen County Purdue Extension Office, all poultry, including exhibition, exotic and game birds, but not including waterfowl, going to public exhibitions or shows such as the Owen County Fair have to either originate from a U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid clean certified flock or they must test clean via a blood test to be eligible for the county fair show.
