Freedom Man, Passenger Injured In Late Night Crash On S.R. 46W

Staff Report

A Freedom man and a female passenger in his vehicle were airlifted to an Indianapolis medical facility following a single-vehicle accident late Monday night on State Road 46 West near Patricksburg Road.

According to a press release provided by Owen County Sheriff’s Department Detective Lieutenant Bill Snodgrass, 43-year-old Steven Brown of Freedom had been eastbound shortly before 11:00 p.m. in a 2001 Ford Mustang when the vehicle crossed the center line and exited the roadway, striking two mailboxes before rolling over numerous times and coming to rest on its passenger side. Snodgrass noted that speed was believed to be a factor in the late night crash.

A passenger, identified as 30-year-old Monica Marie Dever, was ejected from the vehicle. Both Brown and Dever suffered multiple personal injuries and were airlifted in separate helicopters by Air Evac Lifeteam to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Their conditions remained unknown as of press time.

The crash remains under investigation by OCSD Deputies Michael Browning and Clint Wampler.

Additional emergency units on the scene included the Owen County EMS and Rescue Team, Owen Valley Volunteer Fire Department and the Spencer Police Department.
