September 17

THE SEWING GROUP WILL MEET Wednesday, September 17 at the Purdue Extension Office, 180 South Washington Street in Spencer, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. This group helps others by making items needed at health care facilities, as well as puppy pillows for Riley Hospital and hospital gowns for hospice patients. Donations of gently used sheets for hospice gowns, cotton juvenile prints and fiberfil for puppy pillows are greatly appreciated. These items can be dropped off at the Extension Office. Everyone is welcome to attend.

DISCOVER OWEN COUNTY BUS TRIP, Friday, September 19. Explore intriguing places right here in our community. Cost is $20 per person which includes lunch. SEPTEMBER IS ARCHAEOLOGY MONTH IN INDIANA. The annual Archaeology Day at the Park is Sunday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nature Center inside McCormick’s Creek State Park. Sponsored by local archaeology enthusiasts the White River Valley Archaeological Association, Archaeology Day is a family-friendly event that includes presentations, displays of artifacts primarily from Indiana, flint knapping, atlatl throwing demonstrations, and a chance to have artifacts identified by an archaeologist. The event is free, but state park gate entry fees will be charged.

EASTERN STAR CHAPTER 425 WILL HOLD A STATED MEETING on Monday, September 22. Social hour begins at 6:30 with the meeting to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge at 351 N. Harrison Street. Dress is casual.

September 28

THE ANNUAL FREEDOM REUNION will be held Sunday, September 28, at 1 p.m. at the Freedom Community Center. All present and former residents of Freedom and all Freedom School students are invited to attend for a fun day of reminiscing, fellowship and food. There will be a pitchin dinner with drinks and table service provided. The last class to graduate from Freedom High School, the Class of 1964, will be honored on their 50th year.

THE PRICE-LONG-RUBLE REUNION will be held Sunday, September 28, at McCormick’s Creek State Park’s Friendly Recreation Building. Pitch-in lunch will begin at 1:00 p.m. All family and friends are invited to attend.

FOUR-MILE TRAIL RUN/ WALK, Sunday, September 28, beginning at 2 p.m. This event is hosted by the Owen County Family YMCA and Friends of McCormick’s Creek State Park to fund family programing and events at McCormick’s Creek State Park and YMCA Scholarships. Early Entry Fee (postmarked by September 13), is $20. Entry fee on site or after September 13 is $25. Register at the YMCA, print an entry form from www.owencountyymca.org and mail, or register online at www.Mag7RaceSeries.com.

TERRY URBAN ART RECEPTION AND SHOW AT THE OWEN VALLEY WINERY, Sunday, September 28, from 2-4 p.m. The winery is located at 491 Timber Ridge Road, southeast of Spencer.
