What’s New This Week At The Owen County Farmers’ Market?

Dining amongst neighbors and friends with the Owen County Courthouse in the landscape and an atmosphere of sophistication yet hometown feeling made the Farm to Table dinner a memorable moment in 2014. The Owen County Farmers’ Market will be hosting the event again on September 12, 2015 with tickets going on sale this coming Saturday, July 11, at the farmers’ market.

New for 2015, the Freedomaires 4-H Club will offer babysitting service as parents attend the Farm to Table Dinner. Leaders of the Freedomaires are coordinating arrangements with the Tivoli Theatre to provide games, crafts, and a movie for children. The service will be provided as part of the club’s community service project and will be available for the cost of a movie ticket and free-will donation. Additional information will be made available as details are planned. If you would be interested in the service please pre-register when purchasing Farm to Table Dinner tickets.

Every Farm to Table dinner is a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Held in downtown Spencer on Main Street, the 2015 event is designed to serve 200 guests. In keeping with the farmers’ market’s focus on the local food culture, the dinner menu is comprised of foods gathered from local growers and prepared by volunteers. Guests can arrive at 5:30 p.m. for social hour with hors d’oeuvres of fresh tortilla chips and garden tomato salsa or crisp vegetables served with Mediterranean hummus. The dinner will start at 6:00 p.m. with the second course of soup or salad; choices include tomato basil Parmesan soup or green salad with vinaigrette. The entrée choices include pork loin with savory garlic and herb corn and wheat bread, or eggplant Parmesan with green beans and garlic bread. The meal will be completed with a dessert slice of pie.

Organizations such as Owen County Farm Bureau, Owen Valley FFA, Owen Valley Junior ROTC, 4-H clubs and Junior Leaders, Owen County Extension Homemakers, Purdue Extension, Owen County Fair Queen Court, Spencer Lions Club, Babbs SuperValu, Tivoli Theatre, Anthony Leaderbrand of Owen Valley Winery, and individual volunteers are helping to make the second annual Farm to Table event extraordinary. Many volunteers are needed for this event. If you or your organization would like to be involved please contact Andrea Curry at 812-360-1166 or events@owencountyfarmersmarket.com.

Set your alarm clock to be at the Owen County Farmers’ Market at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 11 to buy your tickets.
