Mancil Thurman Smith, Sr.

Mancil Thurman Smith, Sr. Mancil Thurman Smith, Sr. Mancil Thurman Smith, Sr., 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at IU Health-Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 24, 1935, he was the son of the late Elijah and Edna Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marianne (Reed) Smith; son, Tony Smith; grandsons, Gabriel Joesph Smith, Jeffrey David Freeman, and Joshua Andrew Smith; and great-granddaughter, Samantha Grace Brewer.

Mancil leaves behind his four children, DeeAnn Freeman, Margaret Anne (Smith) Galloway and husband Wes, Donna Jean Smith, and Mancil Thurman Smith, Jr. and wife Kim; two sisters, Theresa Bayles and Ardith Zook; brother, Meredith Smith; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; along with many other family members and friends.

Mancil retired from International Harvester in Indianapolis after 29 years. He also worked at Kroger in Bloomington and at IGA and Babbs SuperValu, both in Spencer. He was a member of the Owen Valley Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was a member of Lifeway Baptist Church in Ellettsville.

Open casket graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 at New Park South Cemetery (corner of Poston Road and Main Street in Martinsville).
