Spencer Woman Extricated From Vehicle Following Monday Crash

A Spencer woman needed to be extricated from her vehicle following a traffic accident Monday morning at the intersection of Morgan Street and Fletcher Avenue in Spencer.

According to information provided by Spencer Assistant Town Marshal Rannix Tinsley, a red 2014 Jeep Cherokee, driven by John Summerlot, 77, of Spencer, had been westbound on Morgan Street/State Road 46 when it ran a red light, striking the driver’s side of an oncoming red 2002 Honda Accord, driven by Sarah Sparks, 23, also of Spencer. Sparks was attempting to turn eastbound onto Morgan Street/S.R. 46 from North Fletcher Avenue/U.S. 231N when her passenger car was struck on the driver’s side.

Owen County Rescue Team personnel extricated Sparks from her vehicle before both she and Summerlot were transport by Owen County EMS units to IU Health-Bloomington Hospital for treatment of what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Also assisting on scene was the Owen Valley Volunteer Fire Department. (Photo Courtesy of Owen Valley VFD)
