JV Lady Patriots Open Season With 21-9 Win

Staff Report

Freshmen Abigail Herrington and Ashley Johnson combined to score 19 of Owen Valley’s 21 points in Saturday’s season opening 21-9 junior varsity girls’ basketball win at Bloomfield.

Herrington finished with 10 points, Johnson nine, and freshman Login Richardson rounded out the scoring with two.

“Everybody played well,” OV coach Micah York said. “Ashley had at least five steals to go along with her 19 points. Lexi Orchard, a returning sophomore, played really well, as did MeKenzie Lighter, another sophomore. They didn’t score but they did a lot of other things that helped us win. Anna Meadows, a freshman, had a couple of steals and Mary Sebastian, another freshman, came away with a steal and deflected several passes.

“Our offense still isn’t where we would like it to be, but our defense was good which is encouraging as we prepare for a lot of tough games to start the season.”

OV (1-0) will be back in action tonight, Tuesday, at home against the Greencastle Lady Tiger Cubs. Tip-off is set for 6:00.
