November 11

VETERANS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND A FREE VETERANS DAY BREAKFAST on Wednesday, November 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Gosport Elementary School cafeteria. Muffins and beverages will be served. Those attending are asked to notify the school in advance by calling 812-879-4694.

GOSPORT VFW POST #7850 WILL HOST A VETERANS DAY DINNER on Wednesday, November 11, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Post. The menu will include beans, cornbread, and fried potatoes.

SPENCER AMERICAN LEGION POST #285 WILL HOST A VETERANS DAY DINNER, Wednesday, November 11, from 4-8 p.m. Veterans and their families are invited to attend.

THE CHRISTMAS AT THE SQUARE COMMITTEE will meet Wednesday, November 11, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Visitor Center/Chamber of Commerce building. The address is 119 South Main Street in Spencer.

THE OWEN COUNTY 4-H FISHING TEAM WILL HOST A FREE VETERANS DAY DINNER for local veterans, both active and retired, and their families on Wednesday, November 11, beginning a 6:00 p.m. in the 4-H Building at the Owen County Fairgrounds. Fishing team members will also entertain with a short program.

BEGINNER YOGA, Wednesday, November 11, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Owen County Public Library. Gwen Dieter, instructor. Children age 12 and older are permitted to attend with their legal guardian. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 812-829-3392.

THE OWEN COUNTY LOCAL COORDINATING COUNCIL FOR A DRUG-FREE INDIANA will meet Thursday, November 12, beginning at 4:15 p.m. in the Spencer Municipal Building. Topics for discussion will include 2016 drug-free grants. This meeting is open to the public.

THE OWEN COUNTY BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE will meet Thursday, November 12, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Commissioners Room, located on the second floor of the Owen County Courthouse. This meeting is open to the public and public participation is encouraged.

SPENCER LODGE #95, F&AM will host a monthly stated meeting, Thursday, November 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the lodge, located on North Harrison Street in Spencer. Election of 2016 officers will be held and a Past Masters dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. All area Masons are invited to attend. A new chair lift has been installed for those unable to climb stairs.

THE MARK MISSION THRIFT STORE IN SPENCER WILL HOLD ITS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SALE, November 12-14, in the Fellowship Hall side of the In God’s Arms (old IGA) building. All proceeds go to support the Methodist Food Pantry. The sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., November 12-13, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 14.

THE MARK MISSION STORE WILL HOST AN ENORMOUS CHRISTMAS SALE on Friday and Saturday, November 13-14. Store hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Everyone is welcome. All proceeds from the store go to operate the Spencer United Methodist Food Pantry.

ANNUAL LIEBER STATE RECREATION AREA HUNTERS RENDEZVOUS CHILI SUPPER, Friday, November 13, on the eve of the season’s opening day. The supper will be held at the nature center, from 7-9 p.m. A conservation officer will answer questions about hunting regulations. Chili, a drink and dessert costs $2.

SALEM SEPARATE BAPTIST CHURCH WILL HOST A REVIVAL, November 13-15, featuring evangelist and pastor of the Salem Separate Baptist Church, Reverend Eddie Freeman. Services begin at 7:00 p.m. November 13-14, and at 6:00 p.m. on November 15. A chili supper will begin at 5:00 p.m. on November 14. Everyone is welcome to attend. The church is located 10 miles south of Spencer or eight miles west of Bloomington on State Road 43S.

THE OWEN COUNTY HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY (OCHGS) WILL HOLD ITS ANNUAL MEETING on Sunday, November 15, at 2:00 p.m. in the IGA building, located at 95 West Franklin Street in Spencer. Mark Rogers, President and CEO of the Owen County Community Foundation, will be the featured speaker. Rogers is the chair of the Owen County Bicentennial Committee and will discuss the plans for the upcoming bicentennial celebration. The program is free and open to the public.
