Local Siblings Finally Able To Reunite Over Dinner At Hilltop
Born to the same mother, Dorothy Farrand near Mahalasville, where all but one of the seven siblings grew up, Spencer resident Joyce Dawson and her family never really knew sister, Marilyn June Black. That is, until Saturday, when the family was finally complete for the first time, seated around a dinner table at Hilltop Restaurant just north of Spencer.
Joyce explained that shortly after Marilyn was born, her father left with her, traveling just north west to the Lafayette area, where Marilyn grew up.
“Mom had tried to locate where he moved to, but we didn’t find her until four years ago,” Joyce explained. “We’ve kept in contact and visited some since. So it was kind of like having a piece missing from our puzzle, but once we located her, it all fit.”
Since finding Marilyn via the internet nearly five years ago, the siblings were unable to reunite in person until Saturday’s dinner.
“James was always out on a semi, and we just never could make the connection to where we could get together. One sister lives in Arizona,” Joyce said. “It was wonderful to finally be together, we all reminisced about things and talked about different personalities we all had and about all of us have a first or middle name that begins with a ‘J’. We’re looking forward to another visit next year if not later on this summer.”
