MCCORMICK’S CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEW AND RETURNING STUDENT REGISTRATION will be held on Thursday, August 9 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This will be an opportunity to pay book fees, deposit money in student lunch accounts and sign students up for before and after school care. Parents may download the forms from the website and complete them in advance. For parents who do not have Internet access, all forms will be available at registration.
THE OWEN COUNTY LOCAL COORDINATING COUNCIL FOR A DRUG-FREE INDIANA will meet Thursday, August 9, beginning at 4:15 p.m. in the Spencer Municipal Building, located at 90 North West Street. You can follow the local council on Twitter @Owendrugfree for meeting updates and other pertinent information.
THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD WRITER’S GROUP will meet Friday, August 10 at 2 p.m. at the art guild.
VFW POST #1405 IN SPENCER WIL HOST A FISH FRY EVERY Friday night through the end of September, from 6:30-8:30. Cost is $6 per plate. Proceeds benefit the VFW Men’s Auxiliary.
CHAOS AT THE GUILD = Creative Hours of Art On Saturday… Every Saturday, adults and children are welcome to attend free open art classes at the Guild from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at 199 West Cooper Street in Spencer. The next session will be held Saturday, August 11.
THE CLOVERDALE MASONIC LODGE will host its annual Birthday Celebration Hog Roast on Saturday, August 11, from 4-7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. The lodge is located two and a half miles west of Cloverdale on Burma Road.
THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY IN OWEN COUNTY WILL HOLD THEIR MONTHLY BOOK SALE on Saturday, August 11, from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.. The sale will be held in the Life-Long Learning Center behind the Owen County Public Library in Spencer.
IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN... calling all Bixlers: let’s get together, eat, talk and have fun on Sunday, August 12. Pitch-in starts around 12 noon at Lieber State Recreation Area – follow the signs.
THE 57TH ANNUAL HENDERSHOT REUNION will be held Sunday, August 12, at the Redbud Shelter House inside McCormick’s Creek State Park. The pitch-in gets underway at 12:30 p.m.

MT. OLIVET CHRISTIAN CHURCH OPEN MIC GOSPEL SING will be held Sunday, August 12, beginning at 6 p.m. The church hosts a gospel sing the second Sunday night of each month. The church is located two miles east of Spencer off of State Road 46, at the corner of the Owen-Monroe County Line Road in Chambersville Cemetery. Refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome.

CREATING ART TOGETHER… Parents of children birth to age five are invited to ‘Creating Art Together,’ from 10 a.m. until 12 noon Monday August 13 & 27 at the Owen County Art Guild. This interactive play group leads children into the world of creativity with age appropriate activities.

THE OWEN COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS SEWING GROUP will meet Wednesday, August 15h, at the Purdue Extension Office from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon. Please come and help make items for those with health needs. Sewing skills are not required, but helpful. The group needs people to cut, sew, and stuff items. Enjoy the fellowship with those who love to give back to their community. Anyone is welcome.
