Spencer Motorist Escapes Injury In Afternoon Crash On Braysville Road
A Spencer man and his three-year-old granddaughter escaped this single-vehicle crash unharmed Monday afternoon on rural Braysville Road. Emergency personnel from the Owen County EMS and Rescue Team, Owen County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and the Clay Township, Owen County Fire Company responded to the scene just north of Mills Creek Road shortly before 4:00 p.m. Once on scene, first responders encountered 15-year-old Dylan Heaslet, who had heard the crash from his residence on Braysville Road. Heaslet placed the 911 call and helped Brian Mercer, 50, and his granddaughter climb out of Mercer’s heavily damaged GMC Sierra pickup truck. Dylan Heaslet is the son of Jim Heaslet. According to information provided by OCSD Deputy Ed Westgate, Mercer had been southbound on Braysville when he encountered wet gravel and began to fishtail. The truck spun 360 degrees before coming to rest inverted in a ditch along the west side of the roadway. (Staff Photo)
