THE SPENCER MASONIC LODGE will confer the entered apprentice degree upon a worthy candidate on Thursday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments will follow. All entered apprentices are welcome to attend.

LEARN TO MAKE YOUR OWN LAUNDRY SOAP AND SAVE MONEY! Meet Thursday, August 30 at 7 p.m. at the Spencer Seventh-Day Adventist Church, on State Road 43 South. For more information, call Connie at 859- 2992.

THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD WRITER’S GROUP will meet Friday, August 31 at 2 p.m. at the art guild.

VFW POST #1405 IN SPENCER WILL HOST A FISH FRY every Friday night through the end of September, from 6:30-8:30. Cost is $6 per plate. Proceeds benefit the VFW Men’s Auxiliary.

September 1

THE WHITE RIVER POULTRY CLUB ANNUAL POULTRY SHOW will be held Saturday, September 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Owen County Fairgrounds.

CHAOS AT THE GUILD = Creative Hours of Art On Saturday… Every Saturday, adults and children are welcome to attend free open art classes at the Guild from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at 199 West Cooper Street in Spencer. The next session will be held Saturday, September 1.

September 3

THE DESCENDANTS OF JAMES C. AND RHODA CAMDEN THACKER WILL MEET on Monday, September 3, at The Assembly of God Fellowship Hall, located just off of U.S. 231S on the north edge of Worthington. A pitch-in meal will be served at 12:30 p.m. Drinks will be provided. Bring a family keepsake for display.

THE ENDWRIGHT CENTER GARDEN CLUB will meet September 5 at 10 a.m. For more information, call 876-1393.

“FUN FRIDAYS” ARE BACK AT THE OWEN COUNTY FAMILY YMCA. Children are invited to attend “Fun Friday” at the Owen County Family YMCA beginning Friday, September 7, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Cost is only $5 and transportation from Spencer and McCormick’s Creek elementary schools will be provided. Activities will include swimming, snacks and other fun stuff. If you register and pay for four consecutive weeks, there will be a gift for your child. For more information, call 828-9622.

September 8

THE OWEN COUNTY CHRISTIAN MEN’S FELLOWSHIP will meet for their monthly Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, September 8, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Gosport Christian Church. (Please note the change of date, due to the Labor Day holiday the first weekend of September.) This organization sponsors the Owen County Weekday Religious Education (WRE) program. The group will be making plans for the upcoming WRE school year. All Christian men are invited to attend.

September 10

ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR CHAPTER 425 will have social hour at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 10. A stated meeting will follow at 7:30 at the Spencer Masonic Lodge, 351 North Harrison Street. The dress code will be church dress or suit. Officers will provide snacks. For more information, call Betty Marquardt at 876-4321.

September 12

JOLLY HOMEMAKERS will meet on September 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Freedom Community Center, with Sandy Arthur and Laurie Curry as hostesses. They are collecting coats, hats, gloves and scarves for the Share the Warmth Project.

September 15

THE SPENCER VFW POST #1405 LADIES AUXILIARY will host Apple Butter Day at the post, beginning with a biscuit and gravy breakfast from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. for $5. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served for lunch from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and a spaghetti dinner will be served from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Karaoke will also be held at the post with DK Russell beginning at 8 p.m. All proceeds benefit local community activities.

September 17

THE COAL CITY FESTIVAL COMMITTEE will meet Monday, September 17, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Jefferson Baptist Church in Coal City. Committee meetings are open to the public and resident are encouraged to attend.

September 21

MCCORMICK’S CREEK REHABILITATION & SKILLED NURSING CENTER will hosting its annual Fall Harvest Party on Friday, September 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. All are invited and there is no charge! The event will feature games, snacks, pumpkin decorating in the pumpkin patch, face painting, pony rides, pet goats, and a resident art show. The event will be held in the therapy parking lot at 210 State Road 43S. For more information, call 829-3444.

September 22

FIRST ANNUAL 5K WALK FOR AUTISM will be held Saturday, September 22 at the Monroe County YMCA outdoor track. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is $20 and the day of the walk will be $25. Cost includes a t-shirt. There will also be face painting, music, food, bounce houses and a balloon artist. For more information, visit www.reachautismfoundation.org.

THE EDWARDS REUNION will be held Sunday, September 23 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. with lunch at 1 p.m. at the Mike Edwards’ Farm on Texas Pike in Spencer. For more information, call Judie at 812-829-7781.

October 14

IF YOU GRADUATED FROM OWEN VALLEY AT LEAST 30 YEARS AGO (1971-1982) you are invited to a combined over 30’s reunion at McCormick’s Creek State Park, Redbud Shelter, on October 14 from 1-5 p.m. Friends and former teaches are welcome too. There will be no theme, food or frills, just old classmates getting together on a fall day to see each other once again. Individual invitations are not being sent out so no RSVPs are required. The only cost to you will be getting into the park. This event is not associated with the OV Alumni Association.
