Clovers Fall 24-6 In Weather Delayed Battle With Visiting Class 1A Warriors
The Clovers had trouble containing the visiting Warriors from the opening kick Friday night, allowing a 55-yard scoring drive in seven plays, along with a twopoint conversion. The Cloverdale defense did manage a momentumbuilding goal-line stand, but a safety on offense quickly squashed the team’s early hopes.
Although the Clovers received a 45-yard scamper into the end zone by junior Andrew Howard two possessions later, little firepower was available on the offensive end.
Under center, senior quarterback Justin Wilson finished onefor four with an interception and two fumbles.
On the ground, the Clovers received 129 yards from Howard on 17 carries and his touchdown. Taylor Mescall tallied 11 yards on four carries, while Wade Warren tallied 44 yards on two carries and the Clovers’ only catch of the night.
The Clovers’ defense received 10 solo tackles from junior defensive back John Smith and an interception returned eight yards. Bill Petrosky had seven solo and five assisted tackles of his own, along with a sack.
Cloverdale (0-4) will travel to West Central Conference foe Cascade this coming Friday, September 14. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
Homecoming festivities have been rescheduled for Friday, September 21 when the Clovers play host to South Putnam.
