Flag Retirement And Veterans Day Programs Scheduled For Saturday

Staff Report

A public American Flag retirement ceremony will be held this coming Saturday, November 10, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Owen County Fairground’s main arena.

The annual ceremony provides the proper method of retiring Old Glory in an impressive program that ends with the collection of used, unserviceable flags being burned.

Prior to the flag retirement ceremony, the Spencer VFW and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct a Veterans Day program on the west side of the Owen County Courthouse square beginning at 11:00 a.m. Veterans Day falls on Sunday, November 11, but this year’s local observance is being moved to November 10th to accommodate veterans who attend church services on Sunday morning.

Anyone having flags they would like to have properly retired should deliver them to the VFW Post #1405 in Spencer, VFW Post #7850 in Gosport, or the American

Legion Post #285 in Spencer. You may also bring them to the fairgrounds just prior to the flag retirement ceremony.

For more information, contact Joe Goldman at 829-4610, Ron Henry at 821-7171, or Mike Harvey at 585-7550
