A Special Time Of Year
The Christmas parade and downtown festivities here in Spencer were great this year! It was so amazing to have so many people come out and participate and share in kicking off the Christmas season. The lighting ceremony was still wonderful despite the glitches with the work being done on the courthouse, and the parade itself was a sight to behold! Seeing the downtown abuzz with people shopping, catching up with old friends, eating, laughing, lining up to see Santa, hearing carols, and just the smiles on faces and excitement in the children’s eyes made it very easy to see why this is truly such a special time of the year! But this event didn’t just happen. So many people took the time and gave the effort to make this happen, and this is a note of thanks for all who made this the best one yet in the three years we have hosted the event:
Angie Lawson, Nicole VanDerMoere, Sam Hobbs, Marilyn Plus and Sheila Reeves for helping blaze the trail and making the courthouse transform into our Christmas Village!
Tthe staff of the courthouse for decorating and working.
Anton Neff for being our MC again and announcing the parade.
Joe Drescher and the Spencer Lions Club for all their help
Spencer Police and town council for allowing us to tie up the streets and providing traffic control
Denise Shaw, Marilyn Jackson, and the Chamber/ Tourism group for helping get the businesses on the square involved and spreading the word about the event.
Boston Scientific for the lights and cocoa donations, and specifically Rob White, Sandy Schaupp, Melanie Darling and the cast of costumed characters.
Area 10/ Rural Transit for cider donations; and specifically Heather Donovan for her help.
Businesses that were open – H&R Block, Owen County Republican Headquarters, Open Door Christian Fellowship and vendors, Dyar’s General Store, The Muffin Top, BBP Water, Heritage & Culture Center, Presto Printing, and the Spencer Moose Lodge. It was great to see activity surrounding all sides of the square this year. Thank you!

And to all who came out and supported the cause. It would not have been as great without you all there.
Anyone whom we may have not mentioned, your efforts are greatly appreciated and not unrecognized. This was a great team effort and everyone that helped should be proud of “small town Indiana” for bringing the community together for a joyous event and bringing happiness to people in times where happiness isn’t always easy to come by.
If you are interested in making a donation to help us grow the lights for next year or cover the cost of the event – as of now everything is either donated or paid for out of our own pockets – please contact Mark Rogers at the Owen Community Foundation (829-1725) as we are starting a fund for this event.
Thank you again to all for helping and participating. I am already excited for next year to see what new and exciting things Santa and his crew may have in store for us here in Spencer.
God Bless all and Merry Christmas!!!!
