ACTIVE OLDER ADULT FITNESS CLASSES will be held at the former Gosport Masonic Lodge, 5 South 4th Street in Gosport on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., through February 16. Participants must register by January 5 at the Owen County Family YMCA or by phone (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at 812-828-9622. This is an outreach of the Owen County Family YMCA.
A ZUMBA FITNESS CLASS will be held Tuesdays and Thursday from 6:30-7:30 p.m., January 7-February 16 at the former Gosport Masonic Lodge, 5 South 4th Street in Gosport. THE CALICO EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS will gather together on Thursday, January 17, at 5:00 p.m. at the Extension Annex in Spencer for a meeting and pizza party. Bring your own drinks.
THE OWEN COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO ASSOCIATION will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, January 19, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Spencer First Christian Church, located at 157 South Montgomery Street. To be discussed are preparations for the statewide Indiana Department of Homeland Security Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service exercise to the held January 26th. Also, Owen County Emergency Coordinator Jim Baughn will review the newly-revised Owen County Emergency Communications Manual. A gathering for breakfast takes place at Chambers Smorgasbord beginning at about 8:00 a.m.
SONS OF THE SPENCER AMERICAN LEGION WILL BE SERVING CHEESEBURGERS Saturday, January 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post on South Main Street in Spencer. Take out or dine-in available. All proceeds benefit the Joe Carmichael Scholarship Fund.
PATRICKSBURG COMMUNITY CENTER will host a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, January 19 from 5-7 p.m. A free-will donation to assist the community center will be taken.
THE OWEN COUNTY HERITAGE & CULTURE CENTER WILL HOST ITS ANNUAL MEETING on Sunday, January 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the OCHCC, located at 110 East Market Street in Spencer. Sam Arthur, MCSP Naturalist, will be the featured speaker. Learn more about the state park and the Heritage Center. Live music and light refreshments will be included.
THE WHITAKER BAPTIST CHURCH will host a gospel sing on Sunday, January 20, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Bring a friend and enjoy a night of singing and fellowship.
THE OWEN COUNTY GARDEN CLUB has its annual January pitch-in and planning meeting at 6 p.m. at the Fender home, 1494 Rocky Hill Road, Spencer. Join if you want to find out what the Garden Club is all about. Call Julie at 829-2493 with questions.
THE SENIOR DINNER will be held Monday, January 21. The host will be McCormick’s Creek Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center. Bring a covered dish and a $3 donation. Entertainment will be provided by Ron Adamson and the Country Dreamers. Dinner is at 6:00 p.m.

LIBRARY VOICES BOOK CLUB will have a special program on Tuesday, January 22, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Owen County Public Library. Everyone will have a chance to speak about their favorite book or author, and share why this author’s books have been enjoyable and important in your life. Everyone is welcome to attend, even if you would rather listen than talk.

THE OWEN COUNTY SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT will host its annual meeting on Saturday, January 26, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Christian Life Center, located on Montgomery Street across from Chambers Smorgasbord in Spencer. Tickets are $7 and can be obtained by contacting board members Paul Cummings, Greg Davies, John Trueblood or Steve Worland. Additionally, tickets can be purchased at the Soil and Water District office at 743 East Franklin Street (located in the north end of the Farm Bureau Insurance building) on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., or by calling the office anytime at 829- 2605.
A PROJECT GOOD START MEETING will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 5 at the Jefferson Baptist Church in Coal City.
THE GOSPORT LAZY DAYS COMMITTEE will meet Tuesday, February 5, beginning at 8:30 p.m. in the Gosport Community Building. Volunteers for this year’s festival are needed. This meeting is open to the public.
4-H BEEF TAG DAY will be held Saturday, February 16, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Owen- Monroe Sale Barn. Cost is $1 per calf. Each calf will receive two tags. Bring calves and 4-H beef enrollment papers – one per member (available at Owen County Extension Office). For more information, call Tracy Jackson at 829-3747. The program will be rescheduled for February 23 in the event of snow.
BLOOMINGTON AREA BIRTH SERVICES WILL HOLD A BABY FAIR on Sunday, March 3 from 1-4 p.m. at the Bloomington Convention Center. Admission is $5 for adults and children under 12 are free. For more information, visit bloomingtonbirth.org/baby fair.
