90th Birthday Open House Is January 26th For Leva Young

Leva Young Leva Young In recognition of Leva Young’s 90th birthday, there will be an “Open House” in the Family Center of her church – New Unionville Baptist (6020 East State Road 45, Bloomington) – on January 26 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Cards are welcome, but no gifts, please.

Born in Lawrence County on January 23, 1923, Leva was the second of eight children born to Clint and Lettie Young. She graduated from Stinesville High School in 1941. It was here that she developed her love for playing girls’ basketball, and, therefore, her reason for being a season ticket holder to the I.U. women’s basketball games.

She married Ellettsville High School graduate, George Young, when she was 18. They had been married 66 years at the time of his passing in 2007. They were blessed with two sons, Clint Young of Bloomington and Robert Young of Livonia, Michigan; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Leva worked at RCA for 19 years and at Holland Dairy for another 19 years. She remains active in her church and the Unionville Senior Center. She is known for her quilting expertise as well as the fine food created in her kitchen that she so willingly shares with others.
