Art Guild, Owen Valley Winery Spotlight Photographer’s Work ‘Behind The Lens’
The photography work of Tracy Wilson, one of the multi-talented members of the Owen County Art Guild, was on display Sunday during a public showing of his work held at the Owen Valley Winery on rural Timber Ridge Road.
“I’m here to share my photos with everybody, play some music, enjoy some wine and have a good time,” Wilson said with a smile.
Originally from Little Point, Indiana, Wilson has made his home in the Spencer area for the past three years.
“Basically I just apply some rules that are used for any art, the rule of thirds where you divide your photo. In one of my photos, the truck is offset to the side a little bit with some empty space on one side... those are just little tricks you use to make the photo a little more interesting,” Wilson explained. “You try to give the person something to look at with some additional interest.”
“You drive by and see something and think, ‘Wow, look at that.’ Then you have to figure out how to get a picture of it to capture what it is you’re seeing,” he said. “What I do is add some contrast to the colors so there is more division. It’s called LAB, you bump up the blue and yellow channel and then bump up the green and magenta, making it over saturated so you have to turn the saturation down. It gives a little more detail to your colors, but I always try to keep them looking natural.”
Wilson also showcased his guitar and vocal talents, performing blues and rock numbers, occasionally adding harmonica to the mix.
“I like the blues, but I play rock and country music. I used to play professionally, now I just do it for fun,” he added. “I’ve been a member of the art guild for as long as I’ve been in Spencer. I was looking for some place to hang my pictures, so I’m glad the winery has started doing this.”
