Cloverdale Middle School Wrestlers Finish Second In WCC Tournament

The Cloverdale Middle School wrestling team finished second overall on March 9th in the annual West Central Conference ‘A’ tournament, finishing just behind Greencastle’s score of 306.5 with a final score of 279.

Two Clovers were crowned champions in their respective weight classes, while six finished second, two in third and seven in fourth place.

At 115 pounds, Cloverdale’s Michael Anderson scored a second round decision against Gage Bell of North Putnam and pinned Greencastle’s Trae Carrington for the championship.

The Clovers’ 130-pound Jordan Berardi opened the day with a first round pin against South Putnam’s Nicholis Theis. A second round pin against Jacob Phend of Monrovia paved the way for a championship round match-up against North Putnam’s Nick Goode. Berardi won the 130-pound championship by major decision.

Peyton Asbury, at 90 pounds, was the first to earn a second place finish for Cloverdale. Asbury began the day with a first round pin against Greencastle’s Ashton Burchett and earned a pin in the second round against North Putnam’s Caleb Duncan. Asbury suffered a major decision loss to Keiffer Vittetow of South Putnam.

Cloverdale’s Blake Willis also finished second on the day at 100 pounds. Willis earned a pair of pin falls in the first two rounds, first against Patrick Miller of Monrovia and in the second round against Michael Crossman of South Putnam. Willis suffered a pin fall loss in the championship to Damon Attkison.

Bradley Johnson finished second at 105 pounds after earning a second round decision win against Clay Miller of Monrovia. Johnson lost by fall to Jacob Plessinger of North Putnam.

At 110 pounds, Jake Wilkes finished second on the day. Wilkes opened the day with a pin fall over Greencastle’s Aaron Buttery and a decision win in the second round against Devon Guzman of South Putnam. Wilkes fell by decision in the championship match to Clay Whitney of Monrovia.

Nick Winders also finished second at 120 pounds for the Clovers after a pin in the second round against Preston Porter of North Putnam. Winders lost by decision to Dylon Wood of Greencastle in the championship match.

Cloverdale’s Brett Batchelor finished second on the day after earning a pin in the second round over Tyler Foncannon of Cascade. Batchelor lost by fall in the championship match to South Putnam’s Kyle Hall.

Finishing in third place was Wyatt Helterbrand at 70 pounds and Jerry Burton at 140 pounds. In fourth place was Ricky Whitaker at 75 pounds, Adam Stattner at 80 pounds, Joe Rutenburg at 85 pounds, Garrett Hamilton at 125 pounds, Adam Bates at 135 pounds, Tray Dickison at 155 pounds, and Jacob Austin at 285 pounds.

In the WCC ‘B’ tournament, Cloverdale’s 70-pound Joey Routh took first place. Earning championships were Hunter Hoffa at 85 pounds and Jeffery Jurgens at 145 pounds. Finishing second in the ‘B’ tournament were 110-pound Brady Szczerbik, Justin Trimble at 115 pounds, and Cody Storrs at 220 pounds. Earning fourth place finishes were Jacob Hamilton at 85 pounds, Ford Mayhew at 95 pounds and Matthew Roecker at 120 pounds.
