Gosport Town Council Receives Custom-Made Gavel From Mayor Dickson Of Gosport, England

The Gosport Town Council officially adjourned its monthly meeting in April with a custom-made hammer and gavel originating from Gosport, England. Made specially for the Gosport Town Council, two apprentices from the Defence Munitions Gosport helped craft the gift on behalf of the Mayor of Gosport, England, Councillor Richard Dickson. While visiting Gosport, Indiana this past September, Dickson and town council president Donnie Hall spoke about how meetings are conducted locally.

“It occurred to me there and then that perhaps Donnie could make use of a hammer and gavel to maintain order with the chairing of his meetings and keep his two committee members under control,” Dickson said on his daily blog. “Apprentices Jake Briscoe and Elliott Rogers volunteered and handmade a most beautiful and unique hammer and gavel, taking some 32 hours to make what can only be described as an ‘exhibition piece’. This now has pride of place on the desk of Donnie Hall, the President of the Town Council, Gosport, Indiana.” (Staff Photo)
