ANIME NIGHT ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING AT THE OWEN COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY, Thursday, April 18, beginning at 4 p.m. in the Activity Room. Call 829-3392, extension 3 for more information.

CALICO HOMEMAKERS will meet Thursday, April 18, at 5 p.m. at the Extension Annex. Joan Baker is hostess. Please RSVP by contacting Joan if you are not coming.

April 19

ED O’BRIEN WILL BE COOKING UP A BIG POT OF LENTIL SOUP FOR THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD’S WEEKLY LUNCHEON on Friday, April 19. Other items on the menu will include chili, grilled cheese or peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches, mixed green salad, green bean almondine, cottage cheese and fruit and brownies. A drink is also included in the $6 price of the lunch. Volunteers serve lunch from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Carry-out is available. Proceeds from the luncheon help with the guild’s operating costs.

A SPECIAL COMPUTER CLASS will be offered at the Endwright Center April 19 at 1 p.m. Topics covered include Pinterest, U-Tube and I-Tunes. Call to pre-register as class size is limited. For more information, call the center at 812-876-3383, extension 515.

WRITER’S GROUP AT THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD, Friday, April 19, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come and share your writing with peers.

MCCORMICK’S CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTO WILL HOST ITS ANNUAL SPRING CARNIVAL on Friday, April 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join the PTO for a tropical themed evening including carnival games, prizes, balloons, popcorn, pizza, cotton candy, and even pictures with snakes! Game tickets will be on sale that evening starting at 5:00.

THE 4-H FISHING TEAM WILL HOLD THEIR ANNUAL YARD SALE at the Owen County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, April 19 & from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 20. Clothes are 25¢ each and everything is priced to go. All proceeds go to help bring the Vietnam Veteran Moving Wall to Spencer.

April 20

FREEDOM COMMUNITY CENTER IS HAVING AN ALLYOU CAN-EAT PANCAKE BREAKFAST on Saturday, April 20 from 7-10 a.m. The menu is pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee for a free-will donation. Everyone is invited.

THE OWEN COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO ASSOCIATION regularly meets at 9 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. However, the association will provide security communications along the trail paths for the Friends of McCormick’s Park and the Spencer YMCA 5K run/walk beginning at 8 a.m. on April 20th until the end of the race. The meeting will then be held in the Spencer Christian Church, 158 South Montgomery Street, at 10 a.m. After a short business meeting, American Red Cross Volunteer Coordinator June Taylor will give a presentation on how the Owen-Monroe Red Cross and the Owen County Amateur Radio Association work to support recovery operations. After the meeting Volunteer Examiner testing will be conducted for those wishing to obtain or upgrade an amateur radio license.

A RELAY FOR LIFE PURSE AUCTION will be held Saturday, April 20 from 2-4 p.m. at Whitaker Baptist Church, 3490 South Lingle Road, Paragon. Refreshments will be served, laughter will be heard, memories will be made! Come and join in the fellowship as money is raised to help find a cure for cancer. Purses/bags will be available for all ages! For more information, call 765-352-9315

CHAOS AT THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD, Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the guild’s children’s art program. There is no fee, however donations are helpful.

THE ROB BUSBOOM COMEDY SHOW WILL RETURN TO THE SPENCER VFW POST #1405 at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. Ticket cost is $10 per person. Proceeds will benefit Cathleen’s Extreme Team Level 5. This show is rated PG13, so bring your teens. Food will be available for purchase. For more information, call 812-624-5233, or 812- 624-LAFF. The VFW Post #1405 is located on the corner of Washington and Franklin Streets in Spencer.

THE COAL CITY AMERICAN LEGION/AUXILIARY will meet Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 7 p.m. at the post.

THE SPENCER AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY will meet Tuesday, April 23, at 7 p.m., at the Post. First nominations for 2013-2014 officers will be held.

April 24

OWEN COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKER’S SEWING DAY will be Wednesday, April 24th at the Purdue Extension Office, 180 S. Washington Street, from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon. Please join in making items for those less fortunate. Busy hands are needed for cutting, stuffing and sewing items for the little ones and the senior citizens. Come have a fun time! All are welcome!

HARMONICAS FOR HEALTH will meet at the Endwright Center April 24 at 10:00 a.m. Anyone interested in improving their lung health is invited to attend. A free harmonica will be provided. For more information, call the center at 812- 876-3383, extension 515.
