THE SPENCER PARK DEPARTMENT WILL HOST ITS ANNUAL ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the shelter house in Cooper Commons. Bill Glass, owner of Woodland Farm Nursery on Query Road, is once again donating a tree – a Serviceberry – to the park that will be planted as part of the celebration. The park board will also be giving away pawpaw and red pine trees, and the Delta Theta Tau Sorority will once again offer a variety of colored geraniums for sale. Eric LaFary of the Owen County Soil & Water Conservation District will be on hand to answer questions.
CHAOS AT THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD, Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the guild’s children’s art program. There is no fee, however donations are helpful.
THE SPENCER POLICE DEPARTMENT will host a ‘Drug Take-Back Day’ on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the SPD to allow local residents to dispose of unwanted or expired prescription drugs.
THE SPENCER LIONS CLUB WILL HOST A CEREMONY TO PLANT A TREE IN HONOR OF PFC BRETT WOOD at the Owen County Family YMCA on Saturday, April 27, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Members of the Spencer Exchange Club will be distributing American flags to attendees at the ceremony. There will also be a flag-folding ceremony performed by Owen Valley High School Air Force Junior ROTC students. The public is invited.
THE SPENCER MASONIC LODGE WILL HOST ITS ANNUAL JONAH FISH FRY on Saturday, April 27, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, located at 361 North Harrison Street. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 10, and free for children age 4 and under. Carry-out will be available.
THE UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE CONCERT CHOIR FROM PIKEVILLE, KENTUCKY WILL PRESENT “MUSIC FROM THE MOUNTAINS,” a collection of Southern Mountain inspired hymns, spirituals, and songs, on Saturday, April 27, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Spencer Presbyterian Church, located at 154 North Main Street. THE OWEN COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL HOST ITS ANNUAL LINCOLN DAY DINNER on Thursday, May 2, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour, following by dinner at 6:30.
