JV Patriots Rally For Win Over GHS Tiger Cubs, 8-7

Lane Trimble Lane Trimble Improving to 5-2 on the season, Owen Valley’s junior varsity baseball team rallied back from a 7-0 deficit Wednesday night to defeat visiting Greencastle, 8-7, at Patriot Field.

The visiting Tiger Cubs got on the scoreboard early with three runs in the first and second innings, with another run in the top half of the fourth inning.

The Patriots’ bats came to life in the bottom half of the fourth to tally four runs, with three more in the fifth and two in the sixth. OV’s go-ahead run came on a walk-off single by Lane Trimble with the bases loaded to drive in the run.

On the mound for OV was starter Jacob Hutchison, who allowed five earned runs on six hits with one strikeout in three innings of work. Trimble came on in relief to pitch the final four innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out two to earn the win.

In the field, OV committed just four errors on the night, while at the plate the Patriots compiled nine hits as a team, with a pair of base hits and three runs batted in from Holden Abrell, two hits and an RBI from Trimble, two hits and two runs scored from Hutchison, and Derek Crowe with a hit, three runs batted in and three runs scored.

Weather permitting, the JV Patriots will be back in action on Monday, May 6, at Bedford North Lawrence. The action gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
