Lions Club Extends gratitude

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Spencer Lions Club, I would like to extend our gratitude to all who helped with our recent tree planting in honor of PFC Brett Wood. First, thanks to the Owen County Family YMCA and CEO Darrell White for allowing us to plant the tree on their property and for their very kind and gracious participation in the ceremony. Next, thank you to the Spencer Exchange Club for participating and joining us in the planting of a second tree in Brett’s honor. We hope that others may consider a similar addition to the YMCA’s property, to comprise an Honor Park of donated trees in honor of other noteworthy community individuals.

LTC (Ret.) Dave Allen, also a member of the Exchange Club, deserves a hearty thanks for his part as our speaker for the day. Bill Glass, owner and operator of Woodland Farm Nursery, was very helpful to both the Lions and the Exchangites in doing the real work in planting the trees and selecting such beautiful trees for the ceremony and what we hope is the beginning of the Honor Park. We are very grateful to Brett’s family members who honored us with their presence, also. Many Spencer Lions were present and gave great support to this new community project. No one would know about the whole project without the fine cooperation of the Spencer Evening World – thank you so much. Thanks to all for helping us honor Brett in this way. We hope others will follow by honoring those they feel worthy as they help beautify the YMCA facilities.

Lion Jim Query, on behalf of the Spencer Lion Club
