Honor Guard Issues Thanks

Dear Editor,

On Saturday, May 18, flags were placed by veterans’ headstones or markers at Riverside Cemetery. The following people helped: Owen Valley High School Air Force Junior ROTC Cadets Morgan Chaney and Chris Prine; volunteers Gary Britton, Sheila Newton, and Tracy and Brad Harvey; JR Pursell from McCormick’s Creek Elementary School; Misty Wyatt, Sarah Walden and Dana Walden from Girl Scout Troop 03097; and VFW and American Legion members Ed Roy, Eric Hendrix, Ron Morley and Mike Harvey.

I would like to give a big thank-you to those individuals who help place between 700 and 800 flags by veterans’ headstones. Ed Roy also placed 18 three-by-five-foot flags at the entrance to the cemetery and placed small flags in between those. The small flags are for families to use if we missed any veteran’s headstone. We will be taking the flags up on Saturday, June 1 at 9:00 a.m. A special thank-you to the American Legion for donating two large flags which were placed at the Pavilion and the circle drive at the west end of the cemetery.

If the community likes the large flags at the entrance and would like to see more placed in the following years, please let me know and we will try and do a fundraiser to do that.

Thank you very much for the support and help.

Mike Harvey
