OV Junior Varsity Ends Season With 6-5 Record

Hunter Sturgeon Hunter Sturgeon Owen Valley’s junior varsity baseball team recently wrapped up its 2013 season with a 6-5 record under the direction of first-year coach Jon Collins.

On the road at Cascade, the Patriots earned a 9-8 win in nine innings over the host Cadets.

OV got on the board first with one run in the first inning, but Cascade answered with two runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

The Patriots rallied to score five runs in the seventh to tie the game at 6-6. Both teams scored a run in the eighth inning, while OV crossed the plate twice in the ninth with the go-ahead run scored by JJ Kinney.

Hunter Sturgeon earned the win, recording 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work, while allowing just two earned runs and walking three.

In relief, Bo Elliot closed the game for the save with no earned runs on two walks and three strikeouts.

OV was paced by Bo Elliot and Brayton Wyatt, who both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Elliot drove in three runs, while Wyatt reached on a double and single.

The Patriots went on to host Western Indiana Conference foe Northview for a five inning affair to wrap up the season, falling 12- 4.

The Patriots allowed the Knights to tally three runs in the first and second innings, two in the third and four in the fifth. OV made a valiant comeback, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

OV’s Michael Hendershot started the game and went three innings on the mound, before Andrew Wickerham closed the final two innings.
