AN ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS SUPPORT GROUP RECENTLY FORMED IN GOSPORT. Weekly meetings are held on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. at the Gosport Methodist Church, located at 119 North Seventh Street. For more information, call 812-828-9112.

July 5

A FRENCH LICK ADVENTURE BUS TRIP, HOSTED BY OWEN COUNTY FAMILY YMCA SENIOR SOCIAL, will be held Friday, July 5, departing the YMCA at 7:15 a.m., returning at 5:30 p.m. $43 per person. Must register in advance by June 14. Open to members and nonmembers. Trip includes historic guided tour of West Baden Hotel and afternoon trip on the French Lick Scenic Railway, complete with a train robbery on horseback. July 6

THE ANNUAL FREEDOM FEST AT HICKORY HILLS CAMPGROUND takes place Saturday, July 6. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $7 per carload. The day’s events include live music by Fonda and the CRB Band, wagon rides, and a professional fireworks show at dusk put on by Circle City Pyrotechnics. Hickory Hills Campground is located west of U.S. 231N on South Cataract Road. Drive west to Hickory Road, then north about one mile to the campground on Dixie Hill Road.

July 7

THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD WILL HOST A RECEPTION on Sunday, July 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for local artist Steve Corns. Steve’s work has won many ribbons at the Owen County Fair and is in demand locally. The public is invited to meet Steve and view his artwork at the art guild, located at 199 West Cooper Street in Spencer. Following the reception, Steve’s show will be on display for a month during Guild hours.

THE FAMILY OF GOD CHURCH WILL HOST A BENEFIT GOSPEL SING on Sunday, July 7, at 6 p.m. A pitchin dinner and fellowship will follow the sing. Proceeds will benefit Ed Sparks of Gosport, who has been diagnosed with cancer. The church is located on State Road 67 North, across the highway from the drive-in. July 8

THE ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR CHAPTER 425 WILL HOLD A STATED MEETING on Monday, July 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, located at 351 North Harrison Street in Spencer. Officers are asked to bring a salad. Dress is formal. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m.

July 9

MCCORMICK’S CREEK REHABILITATION AND SKILLED NURSING CENTER WILL BE HOSTING A FREE MONTHLY PARKINSON’S DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP. The first meeting will be Tuesday, July 9, at 4 p.m. at the center, 210 State Road 43S. For more information, call 829- 3444.

THE SPENCER AMERICAN LEGION AND AUXILIARY will meet Tuesday, July 9, at 7 p.m., at the Post.

THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY IN OWEN COUNTY will host their monthly book sale on Saturday, July 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Life Long Learning Center, located adjacent to the Owen County Public Library in Spencer. This month’s sale will feature books on car repair and other how-to books and also books on health and self-improvement.

July 17

AUDIOLOGISTS FROM THE I.U. SPEECH AND HEARING SCIENCES PROGRAM will be on hand from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Endwright Center for free hearing screenings, following Area 10’s monthly People’s Potluck on Wednesday, July 17. The screenings will take a few minutes with an audiometer and headphones; then the audiologist will make appropriate referrals if follow-up testing is indicated. The audiologists will have information available regarding their clinical trials and will be available to answer any hearing-related questions. The Endwright Center is located at 631 West Edgewood Drive in Ellettsville.

July 19

OWEN COUNTY STATE BANK is also sponsoring an Red Cross community blood drive on Friday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A mobile unit will be onsite in the bank’s main branch parking on West Morgan Street in Spencer.

July 20

SMOKEY BEAR WILL CELEBRATE HIS 69TH BIRTHDAY on Saturday, July 20 at the Lieber State Recreation Area. The party is at 1 p.m. at the nature center and will include games and other fun. Lieber State Recreation Area (stateparks.IN.gov/2960. htm) is located at 1317 West Lieber Road, Suite 1, Cloverdale, IN 46120.
