WACKY WEDNESDAY AT THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Adult crafters and artists are invited to meet at the art guild to work on their projects.

SIGNS OF THE TIMES, ACCORDING TO THE BOOK OF REVELATIONS. Are world events shaping a one world government? Is Bible prophecy being fulfilled right before our eyes? August 1

PROJECT GOOD START WILL HOST A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH INFORMATIONAL MEETING, conducted by Owen County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Greg Denny, on Thursday, August 1, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Baptist Church in Coal City.

August 3

THE OWEN COUNTY CHRISTIAN MEN’S FELLOWSHIP (OCCMF) will meet for its monthly Prayer Breakfast Saturday on Saturday, August 3, at the Pleasant Hill Community Church. The OCCMF sponsors the Owen County Weekday Religious Education (WRE) program at all four S-OCS elementary schools. All Christian men are invited to attend – breakfast will be served at 8 a.m.


BAPTIST CHURCH, Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. All items are free! A ‘School Supply Starter Kit’ will be given to each child, while supplies last. There will be games, food and drinks. For more information, call Beth Cline at 323-0787. The church is located approximately 10 miles south of Spencer on State Road 43 or approximately eight miles west of Bloomington.

FISH FRY, SPONSORED BY THE SPENCER UNITED METHODIST WOMEN, Saturday, August 3 at the In God’s Arms (IGA) Fellowship Hall, 95 West Franklin Street in Spencer, 4:00-8:00 p.m. Menu will include fish, bread, baked beans, slaw, mac & cheese, hot dogs, dessert and a drink. Adults: $7, children 12 and under $4. Fish sandwich only: $3.50.

August 4

THE GOSPEL SERVANTS QUARTET will be in concert at the Spencer Wesleyan Church, 168 North Harrison Street, on Sunday, August 4, at 3:00 p.m. All are welcome.

August 5

THE COAL CITY FESTIVAL COMMITTEE will meet Monday, August 5, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Baptist Church in Coal City. Everyone welcome. For more information about the festival, call 859-4185 or 859-4641.

THE COAL CITY COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT will meet Monday, August 5, beginning at 7 p.m. at the VFD. All are welcome.

THE SOUTH CENTRAL COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM (SCCAP) will meet Monday, August 5, beginning at 7 p.m. at the CAP Office, located at 1500 West 15th Street in Bloomington. This will be a joint governance meeting with the Head Start Council of Involved Families.

August 6

THE SWEET OWEN SPINNERS AND WEAVERS GUILD will meet Tuesday, August 6 in the lower level of the old Carnegie library building – corner of East Market and South Washington streets in Spencer – from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call 812-459-2006.

August 8

THE ENDWRIGHT CENTER WILL OFFER A COOKING FOR ONE WORKSHOP on Thursday, August 8, at 1 p.m. AmeriCorps member Terri Lee will offer information on planning meals to provide the nutrients needed to maintain good health and the calories needed to meet energy requirements.

SPENCER MASONIC LODGE WILL HAVE A STATED MEETING on Thursday August 8 at 7:30 p.m. All area Masons are invited to attend.

August 10

CHILDREN’S HEALTH MONTH HEALTH SCREENINGS, Saturday, August 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all Sam’s Clubs with a pharmacy, including the location in Bloomington. The screening will offer free tests and kits including: take home DNA kit, child safety ID kit, dental tablets, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, vision screening.

INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT CANNING? Jolly Homemakers of Owen County will offer a class on basic home canning procedures, Saturday, August 10, from 2-4 p.m. at the Freedom Community Center. Cost is $5 per person. No charge for children. All are welcome. Registration is required by Saturday, August 3.
