Visit The Wall And Never Forget

Dear Editor,

I would like to take a moment and encourage the residents of Owen County to visit the “The Moving Wall.” I had the opportunity to visit the wall in Evansville a couple of years ago, and it was very moving. I was unable to keep my eyes dry while reading the names of those who had lost their lives. It is so important that we never forget our fallen. I’m concerned to think that so many today, do not realize or understand, the sacrifices that have been made over the generations for Americans to be free. Many families have suffered great loss while their loved ones gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives, just so we can “do, say, and be” whatever we want. While I understand the Vietnam War was controversial and people share various views on the subject, these were our citizens, our military following the commands of their superiors, and fighting valiantly as ordered. I urge everyone to pay respect and give thanks to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives. Visit the wall and never forget.

Also, remember to visit and enjoy the festivities at the Gosport Lazy Days. I’ve attended this event for several years and it always proves enjoyable. Our county may be small, but we know how to enjoy life, so stop by Gosport and enjoy a little of their small town hospitality.

Kelsie Risk,
2013 Owen County Fair Queen
