Injuries, Youth Factors As Patriots Drop First Contest Of 2013 Season
“It was a rough start to the season with four varsity players sidelined due to injury or not having enough practices in to compete,” OV head coach Matt Beckwith explained. “I can’t complain about the effort my boys put in last night. We work hard in practice on conditioning and hustle and I take pride in that. I am still going to focus on hustle and conditioning as the year progresses, but now it’s time to key in on the small things that will improve our game. It’s all about repetition and muscle memory. I have a young team when it comes to experience, but we fight hard every match and that is all I ask for.”
At number one singles, Josiah Henson fell to Chandler Gunnell, 1-6, 3-6 and at number two singles, Noah Woodruff was bested by Mooresville’s Alex Teders, 4-6, 3-6. OV’s Anthony Session also fell, 1-6, 0-6 at number three singles to Peyton Baxter.
Both Owen Valley doubles teams were also shutout, 0-6, 0-6. Matt Green and Phillip Marrow played number one doubles and Kyle Wiegand and Zac Webster played number two doubles.
The Patriots will be back in action today, Thursday, when they play host to North Daviess at 4:30 p.m.
