September 5

MCCORMICK’S CREEK REHABILITATION & SKILLED NURSING IS SPONSORING A FREE MOVIE AT THE TIVOLI THEATRE for those 55 and older on Thursday, September 5, at 2 p.m. Pick up your ticket at McCormick’s Creek Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing, 210 State Road 43S, Spencer. The ticket covers the cost of the movie, but the concession stand will be open for your other purchases. For more information, call 829-3444.

PARTNERS IN PAINTING, a painting class led by Barb Bauer for adults at all levels meets every Wednesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Owen County Art Guild during the month of September.

September 5-7

THE WHITAKER BAPTIST CHURCH WILL HOST A FALL REVIVAL, September 5-7, beginning at 7:00 each night. Revival services will also be held September 8 during the 10:30 a.m. church service. There will be special music each night. For more information, call 765-352-9315. The church is located at 3490 South Lingle Road, Paragon.

September 6

L.O.F.T. HOMESCHOOL GROUP will meet for its fall semester beginning Friday, September 20. The group will continue for six weeks, ending October 25. The homeschool co-operative will meet on those Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Children ages nursery through twelfth grade are eligible to attend. Some of the classes being offered this semester include Bible, art, woodworking, nature class, and chemistry. If you are interested in receiving a packet of information, call Davawn Creech at 829-1823. All registration packets must be mailed by September 6.

September 7

THE OWEN COUNTY CHRISTIAN MEN’S FELLOWSHIP (OCCMF) will meet for their monthly Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, September 7, at the Gosport Christian Church. The OCCMF sponsors the Owen County Weekday Religious Education (WRE) program at all four S-OCS elementary schools. All Christian men are invited to attend – breakfast will be served at 8 a.m.

THE JUNIOR PATRIOT BASKETBALL LEAGUE will hold registrations at Babbs SuperValu on Saturday, September 7, from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Deadline for registration is Saturday, September 14 at assessments.

THE BETHANY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH WILL HOST A BAZAAR on Saturday, September 7, beginning at 9 a.m. The event will also feature an all-day garage sale. Breakfast will be available and consist of biscuits and gravy. Lunch will feature coneys, sloppy Joe’s, hot dogs, pies, cakes, cookies, candy, hot and cold drinks, and more. A Colts blanket will also be raffled off. Tickets are six for $15, or $1 when purchased individually. Vendors are welcome. For more information, call 829-4459. The church is located on U.S. 231N.

MCCORMICK’S CREEK STATE PARK WILL HOST THE FIFTH ANNUAL BBQ AND BLUES FESTIVAL on Saturday, September 7. The event runs from 12 noon to 8 p.m. outside the Nature Center. Food vending will be provided by Smokin’ Jack’s Rib Shack, Carson’s BBQ, and the Canyon Inn. Musical performances will begin at noon and feature The Hesitation Blues Band, Hudson Hornets, The Freddie Shaw Band, and King Bee and the Stingers. A classic car show will be available for viewing throughout the day. The event is free after the standard entrance fee of $5 for in-state vehicles and $7 for out-of-state vehicles. September 8

THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD WILL HOST A RECEPTION on Sunday, September 8, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to open its latest monthly show. This month’s featured artists are Dorothy Cumbo and Cindy Conklin. The public is invited to attend to enjoy the work of these talented artists.

MT. OLIVET CHRISTIAN CHURCH will hold its monthly open mic gospel sing on Sunday, September 8. Dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m.; bring your favorite covered dish. Music will start at 6 p.m.; bring your voice, instrument, tape, CD or let the band accompany you; or just come and listen. The church is located two miles east of Spencer at the corner of State Road 46 and County Line Road in Chambersville Cemetery. Please note: access off of State Road 46 is still closed due to highway construction. Entry to the church may be obtained from the drive off of County Line Road.

September 9

VFW POST 1405 LADIES AUXILIARY will meet September 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the post. This meeting was moved to this date due to the Labor Day weekend. For more information, call 829-9005.

THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD WILL HOST A GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING on Monday, September 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend this meeting to discuss future activities at the art guild.

THE OWEN COUNTY ANTIQUE MACHINERY ASSOCIATION will meet Monday, September 9, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Spencer Lions Club’s Lester F. Litten Community Building, located on Main Street. For more information, contact Ray Sensney at 879-4349. This meeting is open to the public.

EASTERN STAR CHAPTER 425 will hold a stated meeting on Monday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m. at 351 N. Harrison Street. Social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dress code is formal. Officers will provide refreshments.

September 10

AN ART APPRECIATION CLASS, led by Leanna Arnold, will meet Tuesday, September 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Owen County Art Guild.

THE SPENCER AMERICAN LEGION AND AUXILIARY will meet Tuesday, September 10, at 7 p.m. at the Post.

September 11

WACKY WEDNESDAY AT THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD. The art guild invites adult crafters and artists to meet on Wednesdays from 12 noon to 3 p.m. to work on their projects.

THE OWEN COUNTY LOCAL COORDINATING COUNCIL FOR A DRUG-FREE INDIANA will meet Thursday, September 12, beginning at 4:15 p.m. in the Spencer Municipal Building, located at 90 North West Street. This will be the first meeting following the group’s summer recess. The public is welcome to attend.

ALS SUPPORT GROUP (LOU GEHRIG’S DISEASE): Those with ALS and their loved ones are invited to attend the ALS Association’s monthly support group meeting. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Comfort Keepers, 4101 East 3rd Street, Bloomington. Contact Leah Iversen at 812-361- 9047 for more information.

HEALTH & FITNESS FAIR, Friday, September 13, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Endwright Center, 631 West Edgewood Drive in Ellettsville. Free health screenings, health and resource information, blood pressure and balance checks, door prizes and light refreshments will be offered free of charge. THE PATRICKSBURG HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1963 WILL HOLD ITS 50-YEAR CLASS REUNION on Saturday, September 14 at the Canyon Inn inside McCormick’s Creek State Park. Gather at 5:30 p.m. for conversation; dinner at 6:00. Please bring old photos, yearbooks, senior cords, etc. For more information, contact Nancy Sparks at 829-7091.

THE OWEN COUNTY RESCUE TEAM WILL HOST ITS FOURTH ANNUAL OWEN COUNTY RESCUE POKER RUN on Saturday, September 14, beginning at Owen Valley High School on State Road 46 West. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., with the ride beginning at 10 a.m. The Cost of the event is $25 per single rider and $35 with a rider.
