Owen 4-Hers Excel At ARBA National Show In Pennsylvania
Kirsten and Cody Morris of the Owen Clovers 4-H Club attended the 2013 American Rabbit Breeders Association National Show and Educational Contest in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, October 18-23. They both competed in rabbit royalty and did an amazing job. Indiana’s Prince Cody finished as the second runner up at the national competition, while Kirsten competed in the Duchess category, which boasted a record-breaking attendance of 65 candidates.
The two young 4-Hers also excelled in team competition. Kirsten’s Team Indiana placed third in the team judging contest, while Cody led the Junior team in Quiz Bowl.
Kirsten placed Best Opposite Sex with her Dwarf Hotot Junior Doe. She also captured a second with her Senior Buck in a class of 30+. Kirsten took eight Mini Lops, with five placing in the top 10. There were 260+ rabbits in the Youth Mini Lop class. Cody placed fourth with his Holland Lop, Scooter. There were 58 in his class and 300+ rabbits in the Youth Holland Lops.
While missing the annual awards banquet for the Owen County Fair was a disappointment due to the ARBA Nationals, the pair had a very successful year with their rabbits. Both are looking forward to attending many shows this year and going to Texas for next year’s show. Anyone interested in more information about showing rabbits locally and nationally can speak with Kirsten or Cody by contacting the Owen County Extension Office at 829-5020. (Courtesy Photos)
