Distracted Drivers

Dear Editor,

Regarding the State Road 46E construction project. I keep hearing how it is unsafe and needs to be fixed. The most important factor not being discussed is that the work zone itself isn’t unsafe, the distracted motorist driving through it makes it unsafe. So instead of trying to make people pay attention while driving they want to blame INDOT.

The number one cause of accidents in America is distracted driving. As a truck driver I pass countless cars every day whose drivers are texting. They drive worse than drunk drivers, it has to stop. The penalties for texting while driving should be the same as drinking and driving. I would bet every accident in that construction zone would have been avoided if the driver was simply paying attention. It’s called personal responsibility.
