Election Board One Step Closer To Establishing New Voting Site
The 930 residents registered to vote in Clay Township’s Precinct II will likely be voting in a new location during the upcoming primary and general elections.
The Owen County Election Board voted in favor of an order Tuesday evening to move the precinct location to the Clay Township, Owen County Fire Company. Voters previously cast ballots at the former location of Cathleen’s Gymnastics at 2499 State Road 43 South; the fire department is located just 3.3 miles south at 5663 State Road 43S.
The board began discussing the new location during a February 27th meeting, when Owen County Clerk Jeff Brothers, deputy clerk in charge of elections Vicki Tarrence, along with election board member Margaret Tucker and Mike Weaver, proxy for Karen Weaver, debated locating the precinct within the same building as Clay I at the Whitehall Pentecostal Church, further south on State Road 43.
The new location is yet to be official, though, as approval must be given by the Owen County Board of Commissioners during the board’s upcoming meeting on Monday, March 17, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Room, located on the second floor of the Owen County Courthouse.
Note: Clay Township is split into two precincts on an east-west arrangement, with State Road 43 serving as the primary dividing line, as well as Felton Road and the west portion of State Ferry Road. The voting location for the Clay II Precinct (west half of the township) is the focus of discussion by the Owen County Election Board.
