April 16

HOMEMAKERS’ SEWING DAY… The sewing group will meet Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Purdue Extension Office, 180 S. Washington Street, from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon. Please join in making items for those in need. Many items are made for rehab and healthcare facilities for both adults and children, including Riley Hospital in Indianapolis. Donations of cotton fabrics and gently used sheets are welcome, as well as fiberfil for the puppy pillows. Anyone is welcome!

SPENCER LIONS CLUB SOUP, SALAD AND SANDWICH LUNCH, Wednesday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lions’ building at 59 North Main Street in Spencer. Cost is $6 per person. Profits will be used to purchase eyeglasses for area children in need.

DINNER AND A MOVIE NIGHT, Wednesday, April 16, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Gosport Christian Church. Everyone is welcome.

April 17

CARPENTER’S KITCHEN will hold a free community dinner on Thursday, April 17 from 5-7 p.m. at 171 Fletcher Avenue in Spencer. For more information, call 828-9077. Everyone is welcome.

THE CALICO HOMEMAKERS WILL MEET at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 at the Purdue Extension Office. Bring a sandwich. Dessert and a drink will be served.

April 19

5K RUN/WALK AT MCCORMICK’S CREEK STATE PARK, Saturday, April 19, hosted by the Owen County Family YMCA and Friends of McCormick’s Creek. Packet pick up and on-site registration begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Nature Center. Race starts at 8:30 a.m. Register at www.Mag7RaceSeries.com or stop by the Owen County Family YMCA. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE will be conducting its annual storm spotter class on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 9 a.m. in the basement of the Spencer First Christian Church. The class, which is open to the public, will last about two hours. The Owen County Amateur Radio Club and Owen County Emergency Management are co-sponsors of the class. CONTAINER GARDENING CLASS WITH JENNA SMITH, Saturday, April 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Owen County Public Library. This class is being offered free of charge.

ANNUAL BOWLING GREEN VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT JONAH FISH FRY, Saturday, April 19, beginning at 4 p.m. Salad bar and drinks are included!

THE ANNUAL OWEN COUNTY LINCOLN DAY DINNER will be held Saturday, April 19, in the Christian Life Center, located at 157 South Montgomery Street in Spencer. This event is hosted by the Owen County Republican Party. Tickets are $15 each or two for $25; children five and under are free. Social hour with hors d’oeuvres will be held from 5:30- 6:30 p.m., with the dinner to follow. Indiana Attorney Greg Zoeller will serve as the night’s guest speaker. April 21

CROCHET & KNITTING CLASS WITH ZOE DEAN, Monday, April 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the Owen County Public Library. This class is being offered free of charge.

THE MONTHLY SENIOR DINNER will be held on Monday, April 21. Host will be Owen Valley Health Campus. Bring a covered dish and a $3 donation. Entertainment will be provided by Darrell and Betty Russell and their karaoke. Dinner is at 6:00 p.m.

April 22

THE SPENCER AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY will meet Tuesday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Post. First nominations for 2014-2015 officers will be held.

April 23

OWEN COUNTY YMCA SENIOR SOCIAL EVENT, A BUS TRIP TO THE CLABBER GIRL MUSEUM, will be taken on Wednesday, April 23. The cost is $30 per person and includes museum admission and tour, a culinary demonstration and lunch. There is limited availability and those wishing to attend must register in advance. OWEN COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL HOST A GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION AND RIBBONCUTTING CEREMONY FOR CATHLEEN’S GYMNASTICS & KID CAMP at their new location, 145 South Washington Street in Spencer (Armory building), on Wednesday, April 23, from 5-7 p.m. Ribbon-cutting will take place at 5:15 p.m. This event is open to the public; tour the facility and enjoy refreshments and entertainment by the Extreme Team gymnasts. RCA/GE/THOMSON RETIREES ASSOCIATION SEMI-ANNUAL BUFFET LUNCHEON, Thursday, April 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the St. Paul United Methodist Church. COOKING FOR ONE: DELICIOUS, NUTRITIOUS HOMEMADE GRANOLA, Thursday, April 24, from 1-2 p.m. at the Endwright Center Kitchen, 631 West Edgewood Drive in Ellettsville. OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD LUNCHEON, Friday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Owen County Art Guild, located at 199 West Cooper Street in Spencer. Cost is $6 per person and includes a drink.

BOWLING GREEN SCHOOL REUNION will be held in Center Point on Friday, April 25, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Anyone who attended school is welcome. Good food, door prizes, and lots of visiting. Encourage your classmates to attend.

WINDFALL DANCERS, FEATURING THE YOUTH COMPANY WITH ORIGINAL CHOREOGRAPHED WORKS, Friday, April 25, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Endwright Center, 631 West Edgewood Drive in Ellettsville. A meet and greet with light refreshments will follow. Donations will be gratefully accepted to help fund the center’s free classes, programs and performances. “A TASTE OF SWEET OWEN: SHOP LOCAL FIRST” event, Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Owen County Fairgrounds. Over 25 different vendors, including local artists, craftsmen and food vendors are scheduled to be a part of this event, which is free and open to the public.
