Commissioners Appoint Frank As County Recycling Center Director
Following a lengthy hiring process, the Owen County Board of Commissioners conducted eight interviews with applicants during two executive sessions held Monday morning.
After recessing the morning’s regular meeting, which followed the first of the day’s two executive sessions, the board reconvened during the noon hour to cast a 3-0 vote to appoint Angela Frank as the new recycling center director. Frank was given keys to the center and will begin work at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday with the help of Owen County Health Department Administrator Sheila Reeves.
The county had received applications from 27 interested individuals before narrowing the field to eight for interviews. Weary of losing current employees, the board pro actively voted 3-0 to allow for the advertising of at least one open part-time laborer position.
Commissioner Tony Voelker noted that Frank documented several suggestions and ideas for improving the center’s operations, and suggested contacting local organizations such as Area 10 Agency on Aging and Sweet Owen Industries ARC regarding parttime assistance.
“I appreciate the commissioners giving me the opportunity to be the Director of the Owen County Recycle Center. I have several new ideas. Currently the Owen County Recycling Center isn’t listed on the state’s recycle web page. I hope to change that in the future,” Frank told the Spencer Evening World. I am looking to get all county departments to recycle, and to establish off-site and after-hours drop locations in the communities surrounding Spencer. I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead. Anyone wishing to share ideas about the recycling center can contact me at 821-8295.”
The Owen County “Robert (Bob) E. Clark Recycling Center is currently open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. However, the board has previously mentioned a desire to expand the center’s hours of operation to Monday through Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. A vote to make changes to the center’s hours of operation was not made during Monday’s meeting.
