(Photo by Donna Hardy) The Cloverdale varsity boys’ golf squad recently closed out their regular season schedule as they hosted the Terre Haute South Braves at Clover Meadows Golf Course.

Cloverdale competed well, but came up a little short, falling to South 161-187.

Rylan Mattocks led the way for the Clovers, carding a 40. “Rylan had a very good effort,” said Cloverdale coach Doug Wokoun. “He got tripped up a little on two holes but otherwise played very well.”

Aaron Whitlock finished with a 45 for Cloverdale. “Aaron also played well and finished the regular season of his senior year strongly,” the coach added.

Finishing out the team score were Freddie Fislar with a 50 and Chase Snyder with a 52. “Freddy and Chase ran into some back luck and tough situations,” Wokoun said. “They both had solid rounds for six holes, but the other three were very difficult.”

Zach Snyder also competed for the Clovers, finishing with a 60. “Zach got off to a very poor start but persevered, and the latter part of his round was much more what we expected,” coach Wokoun explained.

Terre Haute South had an impressive round from Drew Cahill to earn medalist honors with his par 36 round. “Drew Cahill had a great round,” Wokoun noted. “He was minus three after the first four holes before cooling off to even par for the round.”

Braxton McIntyre had a 40 for South, followed by 42 from Pierce Gordan and 43 from Ryan Cahill. Darin Pemberton shot a 46.

Coach Wokoun explained that his team is still trying to work on their consistency on the course. “A good hole or two just isn’t getting stretched into strings of consistent play,” he said. “That will be our focus in final preparation for the sectional.”

Weather permitting, sectional play for the Clovers was scheduled to open on Monday at Martinsville.
