Owen Democrats Appoint Collins To Montgomery Township Board
The Owen County Democratic Party announced Wednesday that Robert “Bob” Collins has been appointed by Chairman Anton Karl Neff to the Montgomery Township Board. The position became vacant when board member Fred Drescher resigned from the position.
By law, the party of an outgoing officeholder is charged with finding and appointing a replacement who will complete the remainder of the term through December 31, 2014. In voting districts or townships with less than two precinct committee officials, the county’s political party chairperson appoints a replacement.
Collins is a 1967 graduate of Gosport High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1971 and recently retired after just over 37 years with Indiana University in University Information & Technology Services (UITS). He and his wife, Deanna, reside on Coon Path Road north of Spencer and are members of the Bethany Presbyterian Church. They have one daughter, Cindy, and two grandchildren, Victoria and Coy.
Chairman Anton Karl Neff noted, “We are happy to have Bob join our team of local Democratic officials serving in township-level government. It is an important part of our local community. We thank Fred Drescher for his years of service to Montgomery Township. Recent talk of eliminating township government is alarming. In Owen County, it would be difficult to provide the same access to services, such as township assistance for folks in need, cemetery maintenance, and fire protection, at the same cost of all 13 township budgets combined.”
