Wallace, Wickerham Are Winners Of OVHS Inaugural iPod Touch Drawing
Owen Valley High School’s school improvement team recently came together in an effort to find ways to improve three key areas including graduation rates, attendance rates and test scores and came up with incentive programs for each nine weeks.
These incentive programs include celebration parties, drawings for iPod Touches and a drawing for an iPad at the end of the school year.
According to OVHS Principal Rhonda Schafer, a drawing is held each nine weeks for students making honor roll, while another is held for students with perfect attendance. Students making the “A” honor roll get their name put into the drawing twice while “A/B” honor roll students get added once.
“The kids seem to be really excited about it,” Schafer explained. “This is a trial year for the program and we hope to build on it next year and have different prizes and different activities.”
The school, as in years past, is also continuing its honors breakfast. This program allows each teacher and staff member to nominate students who go above and beyond to help others, who overcome adversity of some sort or who just do something extraordinary to be recognized. The students and their parents are invited to a breakfast at the high school in their honor.
All of these activities have been implemented to encourage students and use positive reinforcement and incentives to help make Owen Valley High School an even better place.
