March 21

OWEN COUNTY LEARNING NETWORK’S PLAY & LEARN GROUP will be Wednesday, March 21 from 9-11 a.m. in the Leah Watt Activity Center (Spencer Elementary). All Owen County families with children birth to age five are welcome to attend. Please call OCLN at 829-5869 if you are interested in attending; it will help in planning activities.

OWEN COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS’ SEWING DAY is March 21. The Sewing Group will meet from 9:00 a.m. until 12 Noon, at the Purdue Extension Office, 180 S. Washington Street. Please attend to help someone in need. Bring a friend to see what the group! Donated sheets for gowns for hospice care, as well as buttons for them are always welcome. All of the fabrics used are donated from the community. A note to remember in April: The group will not meet until April 25th, the fourth week in the month, due to a conflict in schedule.

CARPENTERS KITCHEN - WORLD OUTREACH CHURCH WILL HOLD A FREE COMMUNITY DINNER Wednesday, March 21 from 5-7 p.m. at 173 Fletcher Avenue, Spencer. For more information, contact 828-9077.

March 22

THE ALPHA DELTA CHAPTER OF TRI KAPPA will host their annual Longaberger® bingo event on Thursday, March 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:45 p.m.) at Owen Valley Middle School. The cost for each ticket is $10, which covers twenty games. You must be at least eighteen years of age to attend. Food, drinks and snack items will also be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased at Hammond’s Florist in Spencer or by calling Maria O’Connor at the number listed below. If you are a local business wishing to sponsor a basket by making a donation, or if you have questions regarding this event, please call Maria at 821- 4128. All proceeds from this event are returned to the community in the form of scholarships and other community needs.

THE SPENCER LIONS CLUB LIONS’ LUNCH will be Thursday, March 22, from 11:00 a.m. through 1:30 p.m., at the Lions building on Main Street in Spencer. For only $6.00 per person you can have your choice of several soups, salads, drinks and desserts every Thursday in March and April. The food is prepared by renowned Lions’ chefs Charlotte Query, Sandy Miller and Rusty Freeman. All proceeds are used to maintain the community building, while is available for use by the public.

SPENCER BURGER KING WILL HOST A BENEFIT NIGHT FOR THE OWEN COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE on Thursday, March 22 from 5-8 p.m. Come join the fun and support a great cause.

THE ENDWRIGHT CENTER WILL OFFER A FREE TECH TALKS CLASS on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. in March. Instructor Melissa Wintz will give instruction on usage of the Internet, Facebook, Skype, Twitter and blogging. The next class will be held Thursday, March 22. THE ENDWRIGHT CENTER WILL OFFER BRAIN TEASER ACTIVITIES every Friday in March from 12:00-2:00 p.m. involving puzzles, crosswords, games and more. The next meeting will be held Friday, March 23. For more information, call the center at 812- 876-3383 ext. 515.

THE OWEN COUNTY ART GUILD WRITER’S GROUP will meet Friday, March 23 at 2 p.m. at the art guild.

March 24

THE COAL CITY FESTIVAL COMMITTEE will host an allyou can-eat Jonah fish fry from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 at the Coal City Community Volunteer Fire Department. Cost will be $8 for adults, and $4 for children under age 12. Dessert and drink will be included.

PRAISE & WORSHIP DANCE WORKSHOP AND PRAISE SHOPPE with streamers, flags, etc., will take place Saturday, March 24, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Hall of the Spencer Presbyterian Church. CHAOS AT THE GUILD = Creative Hours of Art On Saturday… Every Saturday, adults and children are welcome to attend free open art classes at the Guild from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at 199 West Cooper Street in Spencer. The next session will be held Saturday, March 24th.

THE CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN SOUND OF THE SINGING QUARTET ‘FOR HIS GLORY’ will be featured at the Coal City Community Bible Church on Sunday, March 25, at 6:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served immediately following the music. The event is free and open to the public.

AMERICAN LEGION POST #285 is open every Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. for members only.

March 26-30

YMCA SPRING BREAK DAY CAMP will be held March 26-30 for ages 5-12. There will be swimming, games, field trips, crafts and more. Camp Hours: - Extended Care Hours: 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. Camp fee: $75/member/week or $85/non-member. Extended Care fee: $20. For more information, call the Owen County Family YMCA at 828-9622.

March 26-April 1

REVIVAL… THE SALEM SEPARATE BAPTIST CHURCH, located on State Road 43, approximately ten miles south of Spencer, will host a revival March 26-April 1. Rev. Rick Owensby will be the evangelist. Services will begin at 7 p.m., Monday-Saturday. Sunday services are, Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., worship services at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday evening service at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited. Rev. Donald Wiggington is pastor of the church. For more information, call 812-876-2408.

THE ANNUAL OWEN COUNTY AG DAY banquet to celebrate Owen County agriculture will be held Tuesday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Owen County Fairgrounds. In addition to the presentation on Hungry Planet by Jenna Smith, there will also be booths featuring local agricultural businesses and organizations on hand during the event. Tickets for the dinner are available at the Purdue Extension Office (829-5020), located on South Washington Street in Spencer, or through the Owen County SWCD Office (829-2605), located off of State Road 46E. Tickets are $10 per person and must be purchased by March 22.

THE SPENCER AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY will meet Tuesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. at the Post.

March 28

HARMONICAS FOR HEALTH will meet at the Endwright Center on Wednesday, March 28 at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in improving their lung health is invited to attend. A free harmonica will be provided. For more information, call the center at 812-876-3383 ext. 515.

March 31

A MEMORIAL BENEFIT AND FUNDRAISER FOR STEVE COMPTON will be held Saturday, March 31 at the Spencer American Legion Post 285, 154 South Main Street in Spencer. April 1

THE FREEDOM BAPTIST CHURCH WILL BE HOSTING A SINGSPIRATION Service on Palm Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m., April 1, 2012. All are welcome to join and participate in the service.
